Sensible functioning
More than a mere approach or commitment, this is first and foremost a challenge.
That of flowering your most important moments while also working towards limiting our environmental impact.
The studio
Working from a studio with no physical front store means working to order only, which allows for optimized stock management. Providing customers with exactly what is required, also means responding to real demands; with no speculation, and therefore minimal loss and waste.
Sustainability on a daily basis
Sorting waste, reusing clean water from vases to water the garden, composting certain green waste to fertilize it or favouring plastic-free purchases. There are many “small” steps that your florist can take to reduce their environmental footprint.
Reflecting regularly on sustainability measures to adopt is what Ñusta undertakes to do on a daily basis.
Selecting flowers
Where from ?
Selecting flowers grown as locally as possible. In France, the vast majority (around 85%) of the flowers we buy are imported and sometimes come from very far away (The Netherlands, Kenya, Ecuador. just to name a few), transported by plane and grown in questionable social and environmental conditions. Despite a local floriculture basin rich in history (Nice, Var, San Remo), the number of producers has continued to decline in recent decades. However, the Slow Flower movement, like Slow Food, strives to change our consumption patterns by promoting short circuits and placing quality and seasonality at the center of the Flower.
How?
Beyond the geographical criterion, this also means finding out more about the cultivation method (with or without pesticides, heated greenhouses, etc.) and adapting the supply in accordance with these considerations. As professionals, offering alternatives adapted to our clients by guiding them in their choices.
Ñusta is committed to pursuing and deepening all of these ambitious objectives with the Collectif de la Fleur Française. A public utility association, Le Collectif is the French responsible flower network. It identifies, presents, locates flower farms, florists and wholesalers engaged in promoting the cultivation of local and seasonal French flowers. To find out more, click here.
